Port of Barbados Selects Axcess to Provide Security Systems
for the Cricket World Cup 2007
23 March 2007, New York – Amphion Innovations, plc today announced that its Partner Company,AXCESS International Inc. (OTCBB: AXSI.OB), a company in which it has a 9% ownership, has won a $2 million contract from the Port of Bridgetown in Barbados to install an integrated radio frequency identification (RFID) and sensor system being deployed to enhance security measures for the Cricket World Cup 2007. The security system includes AXCESS’ unique ActiveTag™ technology and infrastructure; wireless sensors; and underwater cameras that work in concert to detect and manage security threats.
The ActiveTag technology is designed to dramatically increase security coverage at the Port by automating the capture of a broad collection of real-time security information. The system has the capability for real time processing of the data, which enables automatic delivery of exception-based alerts for security personnel. The system is currently being installed and is expected to be completed in phases over the first half of 2007.
AXCESS has a strong foothold in the active RFID market, which is expected to reach more than $12 billion by 2010 according to research firm IDTechEx. The demand is driven by an increased need for solutions that can better safeguard important institutions and geographic areas through electronic monitoring, tracking and counting physical assets as well as provisioning access to people and vehicles. Increased capability and reduced cost and size of active RFID tags are driving the rapid adoption.
“We are in an era, where planners for events, like the Cricket World Cup, must make security a paramount concern,” said Amphion chief executive officer Richard C.E. Morgan.
“As active RFID technologies continue to prove their worth in efficiently securing locations of interest, the market for these technologies will grow. The selection of AXCESS by the Port of Bridgetown in Barbados for this critical project clearly demonstrates that AXCESS’s ActiveTag technology is the technology of choice for those looking to deploy the latest in security solutions.”
Excerpts from AXCESS International’s announcement, released yesterday, are as follows:
“Barbados Port Inc. has a heritage of high quality operations”, said Everton Walters, Managing Director and CEO of Barbados Port Inc. “We are expanding and it became apparent we needed to deploy the most modern of security tools to provide the necessary coverage and level of security. This system will leverage our security resources substantially leading up to and during the Cricket World Cup 2007 this spring and well into the future.”
“We are bringing together the very latest in sensor detection capabilities and integrating them in an intelligent, automated system”, said Allan Griebenow, president and CEO at AXCESS. “With broad coverage and the ability to analyze the information electronically in real time, security personnel are able to respond to exception-based alerts making them more productive and better prepared to address modern day threats.”
